About a month ago, Wyndham ran an interesting promo. 3 nights in certain of their properties gave you 48,000 Wyndham points, which was the equivalent of 21,500 airline miles (they have a number of partners). They also have some pretty cheap two-star properties in the middle of nowhere, for as low as $59 per night – and in a rare twist, no-shows still count. So do coupons that require ID (because if you stay, they might ask for ID that you belong to the company – butif you’re a no-show, they can’t ask!). So you could get 3 nights for $160 or so, all in. Nt bad at all for 21,500 points.
The catch is they suddenly realised how this is about to get milked and decided to claim it was a targeted promo only. Except it wasn’t. Except they claimed it was. They even made a botched effort to edit the terms & conditions… except they forgot to update the “Eligibility” section.
Anyway, it was a big huge mess. Many people cancelled, fearing they’d be out the money. I persisted on one of my accounts… and got the points. Now the second account just finished the “stays”, and I’m going to submit the request for points credit. Looking forward to 42K Aeroplans – not to mention the double Amex MR points from the American Express Personal Gold card.
